WRITING SAMPLE #2

Who am I?

I am not a neat, compact, linear thinker.  Therefore I have coined the term ‘ripple’ thinker:  one idea, as a rock thrown into a pond, ripples into many ideas – some practical, some not, and some that will serve as seeds that may grow in the future - all put forth with enthusiasm and naïve hope.   Hence I share this potpourri of thoughts.

Perhaps I could best be described as a cheerleader for life.

Although strongly an extrovert, I have grown to greatly value introverts, linear thinkers, and even silence.  As I’ve aged, I’ve been able to look more objectively at many of the dimensions of my life.  I have learned that we can do most everything we want to in life – just not at the same time.  This has truly allowed me to “enjoy the moment” more, be a little less intense, more spontaneous, and laugh more!   And yet I have also learned that the grieving process, whether it is for the death of a relative or friend, loss of youth and agility or other life changes, has its own timeline and unique value.

Hiking gives me such joy as special “Islands of Time”.  The simplicity of carrying what you need on your back and being immersed in the beauty of nature without interruption is rejuvenating.  As part of the “Bolder Goats” women’s hiking group for over 25 years, the deep friendships forged have become as important as the new vistas we explore.

What do I want?

The only things I have ever prayed for (as an adult) is for the safety and health of loved ones.  I have a growing longing for world peace and celebration of differences.  I find my frustration with ‘politics’ growing, as I yearn for true ‘statesmen’ who will do what is needed and right, even if it is not popular.

Oddly enough, I don’t really want to meet many ‘new’ folks, as at this time of my life I prefer to slow down and spend quality time with my husband, children, family and friends I cherish.
